A wonderful Parisian antique market find, this signed oil on canvas depicts sunset over a river in Northern France. It has a typically cloud filled blue sky which reflects the pinkish tones of the sunset on the river.
 
There are rowing boats on the river in the mid-ground and the viewer's eye os led to the masts of tall ships in the distance. The view is down the river to the village church and the hills beyond. To the left, there is a reed bank with people standing watching the rowers pass.
 
The painting is signed clearly in the bottom right H Tesson.
 
On the reverse, the stretcher has the mark of the famous Beaux Arts supplier art materials; the anchor entwined with snakes and the letters L and F conforms it is from Lefranc and co, the famous Parisian company , previous favourite art supply shop to Picasso. This mark was used from 1884 to 1922.
 
The painting is in a good condition for its age, there are some minor losses, particularly one about half an inch at the bottom of the river.
