A delightful blue bird tureen or French soupière. So charming with flocks of blue birds circling the sea side roofs and country windows depicted all around the tureen and its lid. Notice particularly the cat sitting on the window sill, looking out across the village.
 
This prized tureen had an accident way back in its family history. Too precious to discard, the handle was repaired with a staple mend, adding to its desirability. The tureen remains in great condition for its age, with a small patch of light teastaining, highlighting the mend and very light crazing. So maybe thereafter it was displayed in a cabinet, soupières often has sentimental, as well as aesthetic appeal, as frequently they were wedding gifts.
 
The tureen measures approximately 10" high and 11" across the handles.
