Exuberant chrysanthemums displayed in a deep green vase , with gnarly gourds below, styled with  draped wine coloured fabric behind. The chiaroscuro technique adds vibrance and movement to the painting. The shadowed, earthy background allows the firework like flashes of light to shine an enhances the textures of the gourds and the petals, allowing the still life  subjects to   take centre stage, creating movement and depth.
 
The painting is signed and attributed to French artist L Plaisant, a studio artist who favoured still life paintings, especially autumnal florals dating to the early to mid 20th century.
 
The painting has been restored in a way barely visible from the front as can be seen from the rear view and there are some small wrinkles in the top right. The painting has been displayed and enjoyed and is ready to bring joy to a new home.
