A rare find, brought to a Paris antique market, this is earthenware straining basket, but not a faisselle or cheese strainer, but used in the making of mother of pearl buttons.
 
Traditionally acid was used to clean and shine the buttons and they were swirled and drained in this 'basket' 
 
It is artisnal made and in great vintage condition, no chips or cracks and small signs of age and use. 
 
The strainer measures 7" tall by 7.5" in diameter
