An atmospheric 19th century oil painting on board of a lady wearing a white lace cap, painted in the woodlands, this is very traditional 19th century French simple country style of dress.

There is dappled light around her, the leaves catching glimmers of sunlight illuminates the scene. The atmosphere of a northern French woodland is evoked skillfully,  and there is a touch of mystery in the sky.

The painting is signed in the bottom right and the signature is indisctinct.

The frame is probably not the original but is a good match for the era, it is thick and substantial, gilded gesso on wood. It has developped a warm aged gold tone. It shows signs of age and wear but is in overall reasonable condition. I have left it as found, but the small losses could be restored easily, I leave the choice to you as I know many people, myself included like to leave frames with all their signs of age and life lived.

It measures 15" by 12.5"
