This charming French oil painting reminded me of Red Riding Hood in her cape walking through the woods to see Grandma!
Signed Gély on the bottom left corner, this beautiful woodland scene, along a path in warm dappled light, the lady in the cloak makes her way to the sunny clearing. It is a skillfully executed painting, evoking an atmospheric response in the viewer.
Painted in the early 19th century it is on board and has what appears to be the original gilded wood and gesso frame, if not original, it is appropriate and of a similar age as the painting.
The paiting is skillfully executed and clear without noticable losses, there is a line mark down the right edge which can be seen in close up. It could be lightly cleaned.
The frame is delightful, it is an antique weighty wooden frame and very desirable. However, it shows many signs of wear inclusing loss and loose gesso molding and a split in one corner where the wooden fixing has snapped, maybe as a result of being dropped. I have not restored as many of you, I know, like to receive and display pictures with their patina intact. Restauration is perfectly possible if desired and the price reflects the condition of the frame balanced with the beauty and skill of the painting.
The painting is 6.25" by 8.75" and the frame 15" by 12.5"
