An absolutely charming and skillfully painted framed small oil painting of a French coastal scene with crowds gathered to watch the boats pass and enjoy the view out to sea.
The painting is of the 20th century French School and in the impressionistic style. It is skillfully painted, using a soft and warm palette, the sky has an interplay of light which creates a feel of the fast moving seaside weather in Northern France, so beloved of Monet and his followers. The smoke from the steamboats funnel creates movement and the pops of red in the clothes of the onlookers draw the eye in to examine the detail. I particularly like the detail of the dog in the foreground, playing on the sand in the warmth of a patch of sunshine.
It is signed by the 20th century artist François Nicoli in the bottom right. The painting is in good condition with some minor signs of age, it has not been cleaned but could be conservatively and lightly cleaned to remove the decades of dust, I have left the choice to you as I know many people prefer their art as found.
The frame dates from the second half of the 20th century and suits the painting well. It is in very good condition with only minor signs of wear, the most noticeable is at the corner, pictured in the close up photograph.
The frame measures 11" by 9.5" and the painting measures 7" by 5"
