Such a beautiful quality antique ironstone low compote and sauce boat set, found in France but originally imported from England. Made by William Brown of Corbridge in the mid Victorian period. The letter U on the diamond stamp on the base dates it clearly to 1848, making them 175 years old!

It has wonderfully ornate detailing and is very heavyweight quality in a   colourway very typical of this period.

The compote has some staining on the plate and both are age crazed, there is wear to the transferware design, particularly around the edge of the sauce bowl from use. The sauce boat has the diamond mark and pattern name stamp, "Australia" both have an individual serial number which is a sign of the quality of these pieces.

The sauce boat measures 4.75" tall by 9" across the base. The base is attached in the French style, so maybe this was designed for the French market. The footed plate is 9.5" in diameter at the widest point and 2.5" tall.
