this gorgeous 19th century creamer is of the classic design was traditionally made in Dieulefit, a village surrounded by lavender fields and olive trees, it feels very Provençal, although a short hop across the administrative border. It comes from the southern of France area known as Drôme (where St Uze Pottery comes from)
The creamer has a delightful artisanal feel, from the deep, clear green and yellow glaze to the hand thrown ridged design.
The little pitcher is 4" tall
It has stories to tell; the base is blackened Madame warmed the milk for her morning coffee on the stove. There are small chips around the top from being hand washed for many years. There is a crack at the neck, which is hard to see so signed with an arrow in the last image. It remains firm and can be filled with water to below the neck if used as a vase.
It is a beautiful piece to treasure.
