Dating from the mis 19th century, this is a classic French oil on board countryside scene.
A 16th century country manor house, its lake in the foreground and the village cross on the right, very typical of French country life. the hazy backdrop with a view to the montains, the valley shrouded in morning mist, far beyond suggesting by the geography this was once a fortified defensive manor house.
It is summer, the trees are particularly finely painted and reflect the warm morning light.
It has signs of age, there is some paint loss across the board in small patches, visible if you enlarge the images.
The gilded frame is appropriate to the painting, it is not certain it is original but it is old, it has a lot of losses, especially around the outside.
The board measures 13" by 9.5" and the frame 15" by 11"
