A very scarce ironstone pot and lid from Paris which contained almond milk perfumed soap sold in the Entrepôt at Rue de Rivoli, the Premier shopping street in central Paris in the 19th and early 20th century. I have never seen another, so a perfect rare addition to any French advertising collection.
Rue de Rivoli was a shopping destination, the road runs parallel to the river Seine, from the Jardin de Tuilleries past the Louvre, the large Department stores (including the very up market now re-opened Samaritaine) all the way along past Notre Dame cathedral. This store was near the grand Town Hall (Hotel de Ville) of Paris, in the heart of the best shopping area.
The typography on the lid is fabulous as is the name "Crême de Savon Dulcifié" a softening creamy soap.
The pot and lid are quite large, measuring 3.5" diameter and almost 2" high. There is a pictured chip in the rim of the pot and slight marks from age and use.
