Found at a Paris antique market, this portrait reminded me of Dionysus, especially as the youth has been painted with the grapes in his hair. There is a definate nod to classical mythology, and it was impossible to pass by!
It is exquisitely pained, the tone of he skin with the blush of youth, the light on the grapes and the red of he cupid's bow lips make if a very romantic skillfully executed painting. The colours remain bright and clear.
Painted in 1929 and signed Valentin, the initial looks like an S, it is in oil on board. There is a little damage on the edges, particularly on the top left corner
It measures 13" by 9.5"
