An exceptional and absolutely wonderful timeworn treasure, an antique asparagus serving platter discovered at a professionals market in Paris.

The quality of this 19th century dish is clear in the design, clean and detailed, from the scallopped edging, the basket weave to the leaves and asparagus spears, it is very tactile.

It is made of thick, old ironstone, it feels reassuringly heavy. The platter is deep, with a space for the asparagus to drain into, thus preserving the taste of the spears.

The underside is very patinated in a mottled 'crème brulée' pattern, the top is patinated and crazed, but the deep hand applied glaze remains shiny.

Overall the passage of time has created a unique piece which displays beautifully as a collection centrepiece, as well as being structurally sound with no chips or cracks.

It measures 14" by 10.5"
