The Sacre Coeur is one of the most iconic monuments in Paris, with its commanding position overlooking Paris.
This is a classic view of Sacre Coeur, as one comes across it when wandering the winding streets of Montmartre.
Painted in 1962 by J Berteau, an artist from Jersey who spent considerable time in Paris. He has signed and dated the oil in the bottom left corner of the canvas.
The painting is in an Impressionistic style with noticeable brushstrokes giving texture and depth, especially to the changeable spring sky. The leaves are just beginning to unfurl on the trees outside the ecclesiastical building which is part of the Sacre Coeur complex.
It remains in good condition, measuring 18" x 15"
The artist was a professional studio artist or serious amateur, indicated by the canvas being a quality artist's canvas made by LeFranc, Paris, labeled on the back
