This is a remarkable small rectangular ironstone vegetable tureen from Paris. The elegant design is Pernelle, a name traditionally given to girls married into noble families and is most famously the wife of the alchemist Nicholas Flammel, who lived in Paris.
The elaborate handles are distinctive as Sarreguemines, but the tureen has the mark of "Lions de Faïence" which was a company established in 1761 with an upmarket shop of Rue de Rivoli in central Paris, opposite the Tour St Jacques and in sight of the Louvre. Famous manufacturers like Sarregoften created special editions for these prestige stores.
It remains in very good condition, with one small chip on the inside of the rim, marked on the photograph.
It measures 6” wide by 9” long by 5.5” high
