An intriguing portrait, maybe even a self portrait as the subject, though formally dressed is flamboyantly portrayed, for 1960 and could well be an artist. He definitely has a twinkle in his eye!

 

The French portrait is well addressed. His expression is enigmatic,  the clothes are painted with blended brush dabs, making the image colourful with depth and texture. Symbolic perhaps of the sitter's personality.

 

The background is made of short strokes giving depth and interest.

 

It is signed and dated on the bottom left corner and there are some areas of minor damage around the edge of the board, as is usually the case with vintage art.

 

It measures 18" by 15"
