A large solid wood oval platter, for display in the family dining room, to remind everyone to be thankful for their food.
 
It is hand carved from a thick piece of wood and is a quality souvenir brought back from a pilgrimage that most devout French prople would have aimed to make.
 
In the centre is a relief carving of the church to Saint Bernadette and the grotto in which she had the vision of Holy Mary. Around the image are the words translated as "give us our daily bread" from the Lord's prayer, and then an attractive further pattern around the edge. On the back is a hanging hook.
 
The board is as it came from the French home. It is slightly bowed along the length, in a pretty regular way, this is probably warping from heat but does not detract, the board is not damaged by this so it could be the nature of the wood used to create the board.
 
It measures 16" by 12"
