In beautiful creamy ironstone with an attractive floral sepia and brown transferware pattern, this design  (each is sold separately) date from the late 1800s.

 

They are made by one of the formost French marques; Gien. This base stamp was first used in 1884 and the 'Begonia' range of ironstone tableware was popular at the end of the 1800s.

 

Both the compote or 'compotier' in French and the raised gateaux plate are in very good condition for their age. Both have signs of age and use including crazing. The compote has some staining on the top of the bowl which is clearly pictured.

 

Both plates are 9" in diameter, the compote is 4.5" tall and the cake plare 2" the cake plate has a nibble or maybe a manufacturing fault under the rim, it is not easily visible but can be felt.
