These tastevins or wine tasting cups are marked Ludovidicus Magnus Rex, as Louis XIV the Sun King, famed for his court at Versailles, was called in Latin.
The base is fashioned as a replica coin or medal with Louis XIV's head on one side and a characteristic sun burst on the other. The handle is particularly decorative as one would expect from a tribute to Louis XIV.
They are a fabulous quality and a great talking point.
These splendid tastevins would make a splendid gift for a wine lover or French history enthusiast.
There are two available but are offered for sale separately.
They are in good vintage condition, I have not polished the silver plate, leaving the patina intact, to leave the choice to you.
