Rustic old primitive wooden pestle and mortar made and sourced in France. It is an amazing piece and certainly a one off.

The bowl has been made from a single piece of tree trunk and is irregularly shaped on the outside, with traces of bark remaining giving it a very rustic look. It is well rounded on the inside and has beautiful traces of use.

It has been painted long ago, probably at manufacture, with a dark wine coloured paint. This has rubbed away in places giving it great timeworn charm.

The pestle is also hand turned, probably from the same tree. It is worn from the hands that have used it in the centre and on the end where it has ground.

The pestle is 17.5cm, just under 7" long and the mortar is approximately the same wide and 10cm 4" tall.

All Quintessentially French items are vintage or antique, they are old and characterful and show wear consistent with their age and from being used. To most people, this is the quintessence of their charm.
