A 19th century oil on board of a French ship being watched by an excited group of boys. It is a merchant ship, maybe coming into a foreign port judging from the land in the background.

The mixed steam and sail ship featured dates it to around 1870.

The Painting is signed bottom right and the auction house it was bought from has indicated it was painted in the 19th century by Olivier Cheron, a Member of the Society of French artists who displayed at the Paris Salon.

The re-framing is modern and high quality, a raised double gilt frame with a matt black raised area between, the cost and professionalism of the frame indicating a painting of quality.

I opened the back to check the authenticity of the painting and it is commensurate with a painting dating to around 1870's. The back will be resealed.

There are signs of age and patina on the painting, including gentle crackleure, and on the reverse which confirm its age.

Ready to hang in your home, the frame measures 18" by 14" and the painting 13" by 9.5"
