From the Napoleon III era, these frames are very sought after as they display treasured photos delightfully and are just so Quintessentially French.

The glass is thick and bevelled, reflecting the light at the edges, often creating little prisms of rainbow light. The frame mechanism is ormolu, gilded metal, with a gorgeous decorative bow at the top and standing on little bun feet. The frames show their authenticity as French antiques from the 1800s with patination, wear and a few chips to the glass.

The larger frame has a few tiny nibbles along the edges of the frame which I have tried to capture in the photographs, these can be enlarged to inspect in detail. There is patination and gilt loss to the back of the frame in particular. The glass measures 14cm by 9cm or 5.5" by 3.5"

The smaller frame has a small chip in the corner, this can be placed at the top of bottom. The large ornate bow is slightly bent at the top and there is also patination and some gilt loss to the frame, particularly the back.

All Quintessentially French items are vintage or antique, they are old and characterful and show wear consistent with their age and from being used. To most people, this is the quintessence of their charm.
